Present Owners: Original Owner:
Daniel and Laura J. Hanson Architectural Notes:
Here is an example of the Classical Revival style in vogue during the
1920s. The Palladian entry and
central dormer flanked by the stripped-down, symmetrical façade reflect this
style. Local architect Frank
Georgeson designed this forceful and unusual application. The original blueprints are retained by the present owners. Notable Features:
Some of the original rooms have been adapted for other uses.
The old laundry/wood room and porch entry are now a family room. The
original den is now the laundry room and bath, and the early upstairs bathroom
has been divided into two bathrooms. Historical
Notes: The first owner/occupants were Daniel and Laura J. Hanson.
It remained in the Hanson family until it was sold in 1955. Daniel was a
partner in the real estate and insurance firm of Lord-Hanson with Oscar Lord,
well known in Eureka business circles. The firm advertised for years on
the front cover of the City Directory. Their office was located where the
former Penney’s store stands on Fifth Street. The current owners’ interest in the house stemmed from its location next to Lee’s father’s childhood home, instilling a sense of place in the next generation.
