Turning the Corner on History A Home Tour for the Millennium
An award winning home by internationally acclaimed architect Joesph Esherick at 1215 Buhne Street was one of six outstanding structures featured in "Turning the Corner on History", the Eureka Heritage Society's fall home tour, on Sunday, October 1, 2000 from noon to 5 p.m. In addition three Queen Anne style homes in various parts of the City were shown. They were the Kuhnel residence at 1604 G Street (The Zanone House) , the Cade residence at 2436 E Street, and the home at 202 M Street, which was the wedding gift house to William Carson's son. The M street structure, built in 1889, is the oldest of three Eureka Queen Anne houses designed by the Newsom Brothers, architects of the Carson Mansion. Also on the tour was the Carter House Country Inn on Third Street, where tour day refreshments were served. This is also a Newsom design, constructed as a "new" Victorian in 1983. Finally a colonial revival house designed by architect William Skilling and built in 1907 at 925 J Street contributed to the stylistic variety of the tour. Locations of the houses were designated by vintage automobiles. Over 550 persons attended the home tour, and the Eureka Heritage Society wants to thank those businesses who helped sell tickets and make this event such a success. These are: Eureka ....
